High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a scheme which encompassed plans to murder Lula and his VP candidate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The scheme was stopped because it didn't receive the support of the armed forces officials. His successor was sworn in without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, many Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged official structures in the capital, the capital city.
