Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have found numerous interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is actually a piece of poop attempting to travel to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a one button to leap. Across numerous stages, encounter boss fights and visit a store to acquire outfits for your poop character.

Time your movements precisely, since one mistake forces starting over. Leap off floating orbs to launch yourself upward, cross disappearing platforms, and activate triggers to reveal hidden paths. Gather currency to purchase tougher stages where things gets crazy.

In terms of design, the experience shows off vibrant level designs and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics of morphing geometric shapes could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although tough to think of previous releases where you control a coiled turd, video games frequently included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players make throwables from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. And of course, such content shows up a lot in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, like being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on PC this November.
